The quick answer

Assessed for 2026

Buy for a website, skip for an application. Zite is the best value in this index if what you actually need is a handsome, fast, well-marked-up site with a form on it: publishing takes minutes, the on-page SEO defaults are better than most full-stack builders manage, and the entry price is the lowest here at around 14 EUR. It scored 3.8 on our SEO and GEO axis, ahead of Replit and Base44, which tells you where its engineering attention has gone. The ceiling arrives fast though. Once you need user roles or a relational model, Zite is not the tool.

The dissenting view

Two panellists argued Zite should not be in an AI app builder index at all, on the grounds that it is a site builder with an assistant and including it invites confused comparisons. The editor in chief overruled them: buyers are demonstrably shopping across both categories, search demand for "AI app builder" surfaces Zite, and an index that quietly omits the tool someone is about to buy has failed at its one job. The dissent stands on the record.

One member of the panel disagreed with the consensus. We publish the disagreement rather than average it away.

We outgrew it in four months

    Ingrid Solberg@isolberg

    Startup COO.

Started with a landing page and a waitlist form, which was perfect. Then we needed accounts, then permissions, then a dashboard. There was no migration path and no export, so we rebuilt from zero on Lovable. Two stars is about that dead end, not about the first four months.

    Pros
The first version was quick and good.
    Cons
No export means no upgrade path, only a rebuild.

A very good site builder wearing an app builder badge

    Ines Varela@inesvarela

Senior reviewer, front end and accessibility. Audits every generated interface against WCAG 2.2 AA.

On the marketing brief Zite was second only to Trickle on visual quality, and it beat every full-stack builder except Lovable and Totalum on our SEO and GEO axis: clean semantic markup, correct heading order, canonical control, fast pages, no client-side rendering of primary content. On the application briefs it simply cannot compete, and the absence of code export means there is no exit. My three stars is what happens when a tool is excellent at a third of the job this index measures.

    Pros
Best on-page SEO defaults outside the specialists. Handsome templates. Lowest entry price here.
    Cons
No code export at all. No relational data model. No API.

    Nine client sites, no complaints

    Julien Roux@julienroux

    Freelance marketer.

I build small business sites. Zite does it in an afternoon, the pages score well, clients can be handed a login. For 14 EUR a month per site I am not going to complain that it cannot run a queue, because none of my clients need a queue.

    Pros
    Fast, cheap, ranks well.
    Cons
Not an app platform, which I do not need it to be.

The SEO handling is better than tools that cost triple

    Rebecca Stone@rstone

    Content strategist.

Metadata, canonicals, structured data for articles, a sitemap that is actually correct. I have audited full-stack builders that get all four of those wrong. Docked a star because there is no way to see or edit the underlying markup when I want something unusual.

    Pros
    Genuinely competent technical SEO defaults.
    Cons
No access to the markup when you need control.

    Does exactly what it says

    Malik Haddad@malikhaddad

    Small business owner, two restaurants.

Menu pages, booking form, opening hours, Google reviews block. It took a Sunday morning. My nephew wanted me to use something more powerful and I am glad I did not.

    Pros
    Simple and finished quickly.
    Cons
    Editing on mobile is fiddly.

Frequently asked

Is Zite an app builder or a website builder?
Mostly a website builder with an AI assistant. It handles landing pages, marketing sites and light form-driven tools well. It does not handle relational data, roles or complex logic.
Can you export a Zite site?
No. There is no code export, which is why it scores 2.4 on code ownership, the lowest in this index. Treat anything you build as living on Zite permanently.
Is Zite good for SEO?
Better than you would expect. It scored 3.8 on our SEO and GEO axis, ahead of Replit and Base44, thanks to clean markup, fast pages and sane metadata defaults.
What should I use instead for a real app?
Lovable or Totalum if you need a database and users, v0 if you have a developer and an existing API.
