Base44 inside Wix, one year on
The acquisition did not slow the product down, which is not what usually happens. It also did not improve the one thing buyers keep asking about.
Marta Ferran · · Updated
Base44 was acquired by Wix in 2025. Acquisitions in this category usually mean a year of stalled roadmap, so we re-tested it specifically to see whether that had happened.
It has not. Across our six briefs, post-acquisition Base44 completed more of them than the version our panel first tested, and it retains the highest completion rate among our non-technical testers of anything in the index. It scores 4.0 on reliability, which is competitive with the independent leaders.
The thing that did not change
Code ownership. Base44 scores 2.8, the lowest of the full-stack builders we rate. The runtime, the database and the authentication all belong to the vendor, and export remains partial.
That was the main reservation in our launch review and it is unchanged. Our data editor argues 2.8 is generous. Our reviews editor argues internal tools are frequently disposable and paying for portability you will never use is its own waste. Both positions are published on the review page, because both are defensible and we are not going to pretend the panel agreed.
What buyers are telling us
The community reviews arriving on the Base44 page split cleanly along one line: people using it for departmental tools are delighted, people who considered putting a core business process on it stopped when they could not answer a procurement question about vendor terms.
That is a healthy split and it maps exactly onto the best-for and not-for lines on the review. It is also the clearest example in our index of why an overall star rating is not a substitute for reading the page.
Next check
Base44 is scheduled for re-verification next quarter along with the rest of the index. The last verified date on the review page is generated from our database, so it always reflects the real date of the most recent check.
